What is an Ultrasound?
Ultrasound imaging uses a transducer or probe to generate sound waves and produce pictures of the body’s internal structures.
It does not use ionizing radiation, has no known harmful effects, and provides a clear picture of soft tissues that don’t show up well on x-ray images.*

When is an Ultrasound used?
Ultrasound studies are frequently used as a first instance study:
- To evaluate abdominal and pelvic organs
- To evaluate the breast after the initial mastography study
- To study the thyroid
- To evaluate soft and superficial tissues
- To provide imaging guidance for needle biopsies
- To evaluate conditions related to blood flow
- As a preferred method of imaging for monitoring a pregnant woman and her unborn child
